Farmers Guardian report on Ervie Spring Bull Sale 2018

Video of Ervie L1 Achiever 91151H, aged 7.5yrs, taken just before turnout in April 2017.

Our senior stock bull is the awesome Ervie L1 Achiever 91151H. A Line One-bred bull, imported by the Douglas family as an embryo, from Holden Herefords, Montana, USA.

He is a consistent first-class performer, having sold top quality sons at the Ervie Spring Bull Sale to £8200 & £7000 (2018), £3800 (2017), £7200 (2016), £4000 (2015), £4500 (2014) and £4600 (2013).

Here is what Mr Douglas has to say about him on the Ervie Herefords website: "Used heavily since he was a yearling, L1 Achiever 91151H is the best bull we have ever used and is certainly the best Line One sire we imported. His calves are standouts and have presence and style as well as high performance. This bull has a wonderful temperament and he moves through the field as effortlessly as a cat. He is as fit and active now as he was as a yearling. His progeny are here for all to view and we are proud to show them to you. International cattle judge PJ Budler commented in 2015 that he was the best bull of any breed in the UK he had seen during his travels. US Hereford breeder Gerald Beran junior also saw him in 2015 and reckoned he was better than any CL 1 Domino 477P son he knew of in America."

His LAST calves have arrived at Manor Farm in 2022. If you would like an Achiever bull then please get in touch to reserve one.

His progeny have been every bit as great as we expected them to be. His calves were born unassisted with plenty of vigour. They are growing on extremely well and we are excited about their future!

Kermit at 15 months
After catching our eye during a previous visit to Wells Farm, Upper Hulme, Leek in October, Dieulacresse Kermit was bought privately from Messrs Spooner in December 2013, weighing 720kg at 15 months. He carries the famous Badlingham Blossom line, and a couple of crosses of Brook Finalist. He has been used on cows and heifers, and his calves have been born unassisted, with great vigour. They are growing very well, with super length, muscle and dark colour. We are looking forward to his first heifers calving in spring 2018.

Sire: Lakelodge Storm 2nd   Dam: Dieulacresse Blossom 1st  (for pedigree click here)

DOVEMOUNT HAROLD (DH)

Bred by Messrs Thorley Bros, Mount Pleasant Farm, Doveridge, Derbyshire.

Harold was bought as a calf at foot, and was retained as a herd sire due to his excellent growth rate, fantastic length and topline, very steady temperament and lovely dark colour. He has a great pedigree (click here), which includes animals from the very well respected Dieulacresse, Haven and Westwood herds.

His first crop of calves arrived spring 2014, and we have got some beauties! They were easy calving, and grew well just on grass. Calving 2015 has gone very well, all unassisted, and up sucking within half an hour. Now growing on very well.

We are thrilled that Dovemount Harold won Hereford Breed Champion at the Nottinghamshire Show 2013. He was also placed first in his class at the Lincolnshire Show 2013.

WHARTONSPOOL GLINKA (DH)

Bred by MJ & M Nash, of Whartonspool, Staffordshire. Glinka has excellent bloodlines (for pedigree click here), and is a tall strong bull with plenty of length, weighing 1040kg when sold. Sire: Ervie Classic Lad B618   Dam: Whartonspool Lady Decilma (Canadian Embryo Transfer).

We have two crops of calves from Glinka. All of his calves were born unassisted and have grown very well. His heifers have been retained for use within our herd, and we are looking forward to his first batch calving this spring.

Whartonspool Glinka was sold at Newark Market on Saturday 9th March 2013, aged 40 months. He was purchased by W &  JA McCurdie, Rugby for £2600.
